The Great Middle East War Part II

In part one we looked at the players and the reasons for the attack. Today we look at the battle itself and the final results.

THE BATTLE

ISAIAH 17:3-4

The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts. And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

The Israeli defenses along the West Bank collapses and Israel will suffer heavy losses.

EZEKIEL 36:1-2

Also, thou son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD: Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession:

The enemies come over the mountains and possess them. The invaders now hold the Golan Heights.

AMOS 2:4-5

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked: But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

“fire. . .shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.” Jerusalem is hit. “The palaces” is probably a reference to the government. It appears that we have a worst case scenario; the enemy has overrun the borders and the government is destroyed. At this point it looks like the enemies will get what they want a world without Israel. But God has other things in mind.

THE SAMPSON OPTION – THE INVADERS DESTROYED

The Old Testament character Sampson had been defeated. He had his eyes poked out and carried off into captivity. He was a novelty to the victors. He would be brought out and humiliated to show that the mighty Sampson had truly been defeated; people would laugh as the blind man groped in the darkness. After awhile Sampson strength came back and one day in the palace during one of the many parties given there, he pushed on the pillars of the building and it came crashing down, killing him and all that was inside. Even though he killed himself, he got his revenge.

Israel has not forgotten the story of Sampson; they are more than willing at the point of defeat to do what is necessary to destroy the entire enemy. Once the borders have been breached and the governmental buildings have been destroyed, somebody sees that all hope appears to be lost and presses the button. Israel launches their nukes.

The Bible never specifically mentions nuclear weaponry; the writers of the Bible had no word for such things but with the prophets seeing into the future had to describe what they saw. All of the invaders of Psalm 83 are destroyed by fire. Considering the situation (all is lost), the fact that the enemies are destroyed by fire and the fact that the war last less than one day (Isaiah 17:14) it is not unreasonable at all that Israel uses her nuclear arsenal to put an end to the invasion.

GAZA

AMOS 1:6-8

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom: But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof: And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.

THE LAND OF EDOM – SOUTHERN JORDAN

AMOS 1:11-12

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever: But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

MOAB – CENTRAL JORDAN

AMOS 2:1-3

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet: And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith the LORD.

AMMON – NORTHERN JORDAN

JEREMIAH 49:1-2

Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the LORD; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then doth their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities? Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the LORD.

DAMASCUS/SYRIA

ISAIAH 17:1-3

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

AMOS 1:3-5

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron: But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad. I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.

CITY OF TYRE AND THE NATION OF LEBANON

ZECHARIAH 9:2-4; 11:1-2

And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise. And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets. Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire. . . Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars. Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.

THE END RESULT OF THE WAR

Israel’s neighbors will be destroyed. Israel’s borders will expand as the victor WHY ISRAEL’S

will take over the defeated. Israel does have several major problems.

  1. Her military has been nearly wiped out.
  2. Her governmental buildings have been destroyed and most probably many of the national government officials with them.
  3. Because Israel uses her nukes killing hundreds of thousands if not millions of people the world is in an uproar. I’m sure the UN will be a hotbed of opinions on what to do. Even though Israel was only defending herself I doubt if anyone will stand behind her. At best, nations will be silent, not condemning her but not backing her either. At worst, nations will be calling for some sort of international force to set up a government and some sort of military force to be placed in the country.

All this mess will bring the world to a point of not knowing what to do and a man will come out of the shadows, appear to be a miracle worker and solve all the problems but God tells us that the treaty that is signed is a covenant of death made with hell itself.

ISAIAH 28:14-15

Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

I believe this covenant is the same covenant that starts the Tribulation Period.

DANIEL 9:27

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
